What is an Unattended Direct Cremation?
An unattended or direct cremation is a simple service without a formal funeral ceremony at a chapel. We bring your loved one into our care from their place of passing in Ipswich, prepare them respectfully, and carry out the cremation. Afterward, their ashes and death certificates are returned to you.
This straightforward approach is becoming an increasing popular option for families planning a cremation in Ipswich, as it allows them the time to grieve privately and plan a personal memorial when they are truly ready.
How To Arrange A Cremation in Ipswich
The first step in arranging a cremation in Ipswich is to contact Brisbane Cremation on 1300 110 138. Our team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to answer your questions, explain the process and arrange for your loved one to be brought into our care.
Once you are ready, the cremation arrangements can be completed using our straightforward online arrangement form. We’ll ask for some important information about your loved one, much of which is required to register their death with Births, Deaths and Marriages.
It can be helpful to have the following information available:
- Their full name, residential address, date and place of birth
- Date and place of death
- Details of their regular doctor
- Approximate height and weight
- Details of any pacemaker or other battery-operated medical device
- Any recent radiation treatment
- Parents’ names and occupations, where known
- Details of marriages, de facto relationships and biological or adopted children
- Any known wishes regarding cremation
- Any cultural or religious requirements that should be considered
Don’t worry if you don’t have every detail immediately. Our funeral directors will guide you through what is required and help make the arrangement process as straightforward as possible.
For a more detailed checklist, see our guide to the information you’ll need when arranging a cremation.
What Happens After You Contact Us
Once you contact Brisbane Cremation, our team will guide you through each step of arranging a direct cremation in Ipswich.
After the initial arrangements have been made, we organise the transfer of your loved one into our care and prepare the documentation required for the cremation to proceed. We can also liaise with the relevant doctor or hospital where required to obtain the necessary medical paperwork.
From there, the process generally involves:
- Bringing your loved one into our care from their home, hospital, aged care facility or other location.
- Completing the required paperwork, including cremation authorities and information needed to register the death.
- Arranging the cremation once the necessary documentation and approvals have been received.
- Registering the death with Births, Deaths and Marriages.
- Returning the ashes to your family once the cremation has been completed.
Because this is a direct cremation service, there is no requirement to organise a traditional funeral service beforehand. Families can instead choose to hold a memorial, celebration of life or other gathering at a time and place that suits them.
Throughout the process, our team is available to answer questions and let you know what needs to happen next.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you need more information.
